2. Pick a nib for your handwriting
Fine is a useful starting point for smaller notes; medium gives you a broader line. Ink and paper also affect the result, and nib sizes vary between brands. You do not need to buy several sizes to begin.
3. Match the ink to the filling system
Jinhao 82: use its included converter with a Diamine 3 mL sample or other bottled fountain pen ink.
Platinum Preppy: choose compatible Platinum cartridges and check the included refill on the product listing. Bottled ink needs a model-compatible filling accessory.
Pilot Kakuno Family Series: start with the included Pilot cartridge. A compatible Pilot converter is needed before using bottled ink.
Kaweco Classic Sport: confirm the cartridge format and included refill. If you want bottled ink, check the compatible mini converter for this compact model.
LAMY Safari: use LAMY T10 cartridges, or a LAMY Z28 converter for bottled ink. Confirm what is included with your selected edition.
TWSBI ECO: fill its built-in piston reservoir with bottled fountain pen ink. You do not need a separate converter.
Cartridges and converters are not universal. If you are unsure, ask us to check your exact pen model before ordering refills. Browse ink samples, discover Philippine-made On Inks, or explore all fountain pen inks and refills.
4. Add paper when you need it
Try the pen on the paper you already use before building a large collection. If you want a notebook for a new journal or a gift, browse our notebooks and notepads and check the paper details for the way you write.
